Cadaver Dissection/Dermal Filler Injection Practice

Program Overview:

Human Cadaver Facial Dissection Workshop is a procedural anatomy course providing practicing physicians hands-on experience exploring the complex 3-dimensional anatomic structures of the face and neck. Human Cadaver Facial Dissection Workshop will allow participants to actually see and understand the relationships among these anatomic structures that are quite small, inaccessible, often poorly taught and frequently misunderstood. Fresh-frozen heads will be used to specifically examine anatomic planes, muscles, nerves, arteries and veins. Utilizing small groups in a medical school laboratory, expert facial plastic surgeons will guide attendees through a dissection of the face and neck and offer formal instruction in the evolving methodology of injecting botulinum neurotoxin and dermal fillers.

Objectives:

After completing this activity, the participant will be better able to:

• Identify the functional anatomy of facial muscles including surface landmarks
• Recognize the appropriate anatomic planes for injection when using injectable agents
• Describe the anatomy of the face in terms of volume loss and structural changes in multiple tissue layers
• Assess a patient’s candidacy for full facial rejuvenation with injectable agents
• Perform injections for a range of indications
• Identify anatomic ‘danger zones’ which may result in adverse events or permanent injury
• Name the specific indications, applications, benefits, limitations and safety precautions of currently available injectable agents

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, otolaryngolists and ophthalmologists who are currently or will be performing facial aesthetic procedures using botulinum toxin and dermal fillers.
