Cadaver Dissection/Dermal Filler Injection Practice
Program Overview:
Human Cadaver Facial Dissection Workshop is a procedural anatomy course providing practicing physicians hands-on experience exploring the complex 3-dimensional anatomic structures of the face and neck.
Utilizing small groups in a medical school laboratory, expert plastic surgeons will guide attendees through a dissection of the face and neck. Fresh-frozen heads will be used to specifically examine anatomic planes, muscles, nerves, arteries and veins.
Participants will be taught how to identify craniofacial skeletal aging as well as the differential aging of fat compartments. Formal instruction will be offered in the evolving methodology of injecting dermal fillers to recreate a youthful face with natural boundaries.
Human Cadaver Facial Dissection Workshop will allow participants to see and understand the relationships among anatomic structures that are small, inaccessible, poorly taught and, as a result, frequently misunderstood. Armed with this practical knowledge, clinicians will be in a better position to avoid anatomic neurovascular danger zones during botulinum neurotoxin and dermal filler injections.
Attendees will inject dermal fillers into cadavers and then have the unique opportunity to immediately correlate the post injection appearance with the exact location of the filler in the specimen’s face.
Limited amounts of expired dermal fillers will be provided. Attendees are encourage to bring their own dermal filler products with which they can practice.
Objectives:
After completing this activity, the participant will be better able to:
- Identify the functional anatomy of facial muscles including surface landmarks
- Recognize the appropriate anatomic planes for injection when using injectable agents
- Describe the anatomy of the face in terms of volume loss and structural changes in multiple tissue layers
- Assess a patient’s candidacy for full facial rejuvenation with injectable agents
- Perform injections for a range of indications
- Identify anatomic ‘danger zones’ which may result in adverse events or permanent injury
- Name the specific indications, applications, benefits, limitations and safety precautions of currently available injectable agents
Target Audience:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, ophthalmologists and their extenders who are currently or will be performing facial aesthetic procedures using botulinum toxin and dermal fillers.
